New Challenges

I bought this phonics/ABC bag for a dollar at a rummage sale last summer.

When I told Shannon about this, she suggested that I mix things up by finding things around the house to supplement the collection. So, finally, I took her advice, and in the spur of the moment, I used the miniature animals and random things in the room for Koko to have a go with. It was a challenge! Next time I'll be more organized and find something for each letter.

I was surprised when Koko decided to take all the word cards from every vowel family and do it all at once. It took a long time and I did have to help her stay on track, but she finished! I realize that she still mixes up 'b' and 'd' but I am amazed that she has almost mastered all the words.

Koko has learned almost all her consonant letters, so I finally made the vowels to now have the complete Korean alphabet. Pictured above is the complete set of vowels made with glitter glue and card stock. I had used two jumbo index cards glued together, but card stock is more sturdy. This time, I didn't use a different color for each stoke, but just kept all the vowels blue. If you look closely, I put a smiley face on the far left corner to help Koko hold the card correctly because if you noticed, the vowels look very alike.

I think I should make matching cards for all the letters. That would be a fun activity for Koko and maybe even for Cheeky!

By the way, Korean is a very simple language to learn how to read. If you learn the consonants and the vowels which are completely phonetic, you can read! Unfortunately, to my chagrin, it's not easy to spell. Many a family member has laughed hysterically at my atrocious spelling.

Cheeky was feeling left out watching Koko and I work with glitter glue, so I finally squirted some out according to her specific dictations, and she had a blast using a paint brush to spread glitter glue over her marker masterpiece. It's always a challenge working with both at the same time. I wonder what it'll be like when the baby arrives! On the side note, baby and I have survived the first trimester. We had the joy of listening to the heartbeat yesterday.
