Natural Finger Paint/Tempera Paint Options/Egg Dye

My children paint a lot. I use an allegedly non-toxic brand that conforms to ASML standards, but I still get a headache from the fumes.

So, I'm looked into making some of your own fingerpaints and here is what I found:

Make Your Own Fingerpaints by Green Planet
For this recipe, you need dishwashing detergent and dye. I am leery of detergent because of the 1-4-Dioxane, but I think Dr. Brommer liquid soap might suffice. Also, continuing on the natural dye tangent, I heard that Seelecttea is a good brand to try.

Also, if you don't have the time, but loads of money, here is a interesting option--German Livos SALIS Natural hemp Finger Paint Set offered seemingly exclusively in the U.S. by Kidbean.

And with Easter around the corner, Katy Farber just wrote a timely piece on natural egg dyes!

Note: I wrote this post long time ago but was recently inspired by Steph from Montessori Free Fall to actually publish it. Read what she says about artificial food coloring. My kids no longer are that interested in painting and I am not nearly motivated to make my own handmade fingerpaint but maybe I'll get to this by the time the baby wants to paint. Ha!
