Flowers and eggs

After breakfast, both girls ran outside and exulted at the fact that our daffodils have finally blossomed. We've been taking pictures almost daily so we can document the blooming process and do some flower identification. And I kid you not, when I look outside my window, I already see swarms of insects. We are definitely going to do some insect identification, too, though I already feel squeamish because I am not that fond of insects.

This flower has been the cause of great scrutiny. We first thought they were Forget-Me-Nots or Glory of the Snow but it turns out that they're 'Spring Beauty.' I was impressed with Koko counting the petals and comparing with the flowers in Alison's Zinnia during our initial detective work.

We dyed eggs naturally again this year. I even boiled up some strawberries and attempted to get pink. It's the lone egg nestled between the blue and orange eggs. We predicted what colors would form and my kids were surprised that red cabbage turned their eggs blue instead of the predicted purple. And they liked deviled eggs this time. Score!

I can't believe it's almost Easter already! I have yet to prepare their Easter baskets, not to mention even start assembling homemade Resurrection eggs (another version here) for a scavenger hunt. Many thanks to Shannon and Joyful Learner for their inspiration and help. Shannon, I am also going to attempt to make those resurrection rolls this year! Happy Easter everyone!

As for insects, she loves to pick them up and play with them. I just *supervise*! ;)
