Natural Egg Dyeing

We followed the instructions here for guidance, but I had to improvise. I didn't have turmeric so I used Madras curry powder (yellow) which worked fine, Seleccta red food dye (red), and chopped red cabbage with blueberries(blue).

Cut up some red cabbage and boil for 10 minutes. Strain the cabbage and use the liquid. I had a lot left over and saved it in the fridge but I don't know how long it's good for.
The other egg baths with 1/4 cup salt and vinegar mixed with the other ingredients plus boiling water.
The curry powder made it turn yellow after only a few minutes.
After the egg baths cooled down, I put it in the fridge overnight and voila! The selectta red dye worked the worst. It was very expensive for a small bottle so I was a little stingy with it, but I think 1 T was not enough. It turned the eggs almost black so later on, I soaked it in the cabbage/blueberry bath and it turned almost purple.

The kids were not too impressed with the dye though they liked the blue colors best. They were like, hurry up and let us eat them!
