Practical Life: New and Old
The kids love to use the pestle and mortar. To be honest, I don't often have many practical life items in their Montessori shelves. We just do most 'practical life' activities when we need to in our everyday life. For example, everyone helps out with folding the laundry and I let them start with easy items such as wash cloths and move on from there.
I do look for many opportunities to practice practical life skills. I probably use my pestle and mortar more than the normal person. We use it to ground whole cloves for ginger cookies, to crush old-fashioned oats for cookies, to grind up whole roasted sesame dishes to make sesame salt, to crush peanuts and walnuts and, of course, to crush whole garlic cloves.
And a new addition to my kitchen is this child-sized vegetable brush.
My kids love to scrub potatoes and carrots with this and I love how clean our veggies are! Koko is always asking what she can scrub next and is disappointed that we can't use this to scrub bananas, grapes, and other fruit.
Is there anything else they can scrub with this?
