After freezing the knots, I gave it to my 17 month toddler. She chewed on the frozen knots thoughtfully, not accustomed to putting something that cold in her mouth. Then she chewed on the other knot and finally the soft wool-filled middle. Afterwards, she tossed it.
The teether works great even when not frozen which is the only way Cheeky will use it. I like the fact that it's two-sided and soft in the middle. I only wish I bought it earlier. Cheeky is not teething as badly as before when her front molars were erupting. But I hope that it will bring relief when her bottom molars come out. Even if she did technically outgrow the teether quickly, with its size, shape, and texture, I foresee that it will remain a toy for the next few years.
For the curious, I want to share some of the more interesting washing instructions:
Machine wash cold delicate and line dry, or hand wash. Over time the wool centre will 'felt' up. This will not impact the function of the Teething Bonbon. If you'd like, you can pull and fluff the centre after each wash to keep felting to a minimum.
I didn't even think of how this teether could 'felt' up. Another factor to consider is that these teethers are made of organic cotton flannel that are basically light-colored. If your teething baby has swollen bloody gums like my tot does sometimes, it can get stained with blood. Most stains do come out easily if you wash it right away with cold water, but it's just a consideration you might want to think of.
But again, wool is naturally anti-bacterial and the ease and comfort of being able to chew on frozen knots while holding a soft center seem to make this purchase worthwhile to babies and tots who actually welcome frozen relief. And for parents who might want to have a variety of teethers, this definitely is one that's BPA and what other possible chemical plastic might be leeching free.
