Last week, my busy student husband surprised all of us with an outdoor Christmas lights display in our front lawn. There had been a few snowflakes and even a morning frost, but no real snow to speak of so the outdoor display helped nudge me to remember that the season has arrived. I finally put out our Advent books out and am slowing winding into our preparations.
This fall, we started Genesis. As I started Advent devotions this week, I began with Genesis to discuss the significance of Jesus' birthday, which is that God always keeps his promises. God promised Adam and Eve, Abraham, and many other people that He would send Jesus and He did. God promises He is coming again, and He will!
I am not as organized as other years, and have decided not to do Advent activities and countdown right from December first, but the twelve days before Christmas. Last year, we had a lot of fun with our Advent activities, and I expect to do some of them again. I like idea of planting wheat or grass seeds and then using the sprouts to make a little bundle of hay for Baby Jesus. But instead of planting a seed for each act of love, I was thinking we could plant a seed each time we remembered something to thank God for.
Have a blessed and peaceful Advent!
