This weekend, my Montessori directress friend (bless her heart) took the time to teach me the ropes of the bead cabinet and the multiplication board. I really should have brought the black and white bead stair so she could teach me the snake addition game, but I forgot.
So, my last summer goal, aside from taking them to a pediatric dentist and hitting the beach is to learn some of the names of the construction vehicles that we see daily. She keeps on reminding me of how I made the gross error of calling an excavator a crane. And to make it worse, I still am not 100% sure what an excavator is. I'm getting a little desperate. Should I buy these 3-part Construction vehicles cards or is there just a good book that someone can recommend?
My lofty and not so lofty school goals for my kids and me:
- To learn animals, weather conditions, body parts, and numbers in Spanish.
- To master several hymns/praise songs in Korean and English and at least one Korean lyrical song
- To memorize Bible verses in Korean and English. I am considering purchasing My ABC Bible Verses
- To memorize some easy kid-friendly poetry from Here's A Little Poem, esp. Langston Hughes's "Rain Song".
- To make it a habit to listen to audio tapes/CD's regularly. My kids love for me to read, but I want them to enjoy listening to books on CD without pictures. This would help their Korean as well.
- Listen to more classical music
- Introduce my kids to famous art, including Korean art (I'll post more about this later.)
- To improve my piano playing and sing songs with my kids everyday or at least once a week! We also have a guitar that is not used around here. Maybe someday, someone can actually learn how to use the guitar in this household.
- To make a cloud book to carry around with me in the car so that we can master the cloud shapes. They always ask what kind of cloud they're seeing and I'm generally confused and incompetent. I would like to create a cloud unit and do some cloud experiments.
- Do a landforms unit
- Do a sink and float lesson
- Do a magnetic and non-magnetic lesson
- Do a dinosaur unit (Any good dinosaur book recommendations?)
- Do a magnifiying glass unit
- Do a human body unit (Koko wants to know more about veins.)
- Grow a bean, sweet potato, avocado, and carrot plant successfully.
- For Koko to master the teen and ten boards. She's started arithematic with the red and blue rods and I hope to encourage that as well. We just purchased a wonderful USA puzzle map from Alison's that she wants to be able to do herself, and I hope to introduce her to the hundreds board, the squaring bead material, and the multiplication board. Maybe fractions, too? And if I ever learn the Snake game, that as well.
- To formally introduce geometric solids, pink and brown tower, red rods, and other sensorial work to Cheeky if she seems interested. Maybe even the sandpaper letters and numbers. Actually, I am mostly just want to read more to her.
- To learn the parts of the horse, turtle, fish, flower, frog, mushroom, bird. etc. and maybe if Koko seems interested start this sequence in Montessori life science.
- Learn some basic bird calls and identify leaves and flowers in the neighborhood.
- Read to them a lot. This I think I can definitely do.
- Do art at least once a week.
- To teach my kids to clean up after themselves whether it's Montessori work or play. And urgh, be a good example and clean up myself. I truly struggle with this!
- Most of all, be a gentle and attentive mom who can reflect God's love and stay positive despite sleep deprivation. I truly will need God's help especially in the beginning months!

I can help with the spanish and the construction names. Domi is a construction worker and maybe she can help. I will draft some basic spanish stuff and send it to you.
I am checking my files!
