My husband had a bad day recently. While he was driving on the highway, several people honked at him and frantically motioned to him, but he didn't realize what they were trying to say until it was too late: He had left his work bag on top of the car. It contained his medical binder, important notes, and his stethoscope. (He's a nurse.) And even though he made three trips back and forth, he never found it.
My husband hates losing things, especially expensive items like a brand new stethoscope. But this wasn't the first time he's lost something valuable. When we first got married and came to the states after a long honeymoon in Korea, we attended a conference where for some reason, he had brought $2,500 in cash in his wallet which was at that time, our life's savings. (We had not yet opened a bank account and he had thought it would be safer to bring the money instead of leaving it at home.) What was more strange, four months later, a lady whom we never could identify , found it while cleaning the auditorium and we were contacted by the police and returned our money.
He also has left his ATM card in the machine on numerous occasions. Not to mention losing his wallet countless times. He even has dropped his pay checks outside. But some kind stranger or friend always came by our house with our missing valuables.
Some things have not been returned such as his bike, his favorite gloves, and many small items. But God has been merciful to us. Maybe he'll never find his bag. But we like to remind ourselves that money can come and go, but at least we have each other.
