Review and Giveaway: Lyrae's Natural Strawberry Toothpaste

As of late, I have opted for a fluoride-free toothpaste for my family. I am happy with Weleda's Tooth gel that my children love, and if not carefully monitored, will lick directly from the tube, but when I heard about Canadian Lyrae's Natural Toothpastes, I was excited. It's difficult finding a natural toothpaste without SLS and fluoride. And truth be told, my children like eating Weleda's tooth gel more than actually brushing with it.

So, long story short, I was given a bottle of Lyra's Naturally Strawberry Toothpaste to review and was bequeathed with another bottle for a giveaway!

The natural toothpastes come in either a 60 ml or 125 ml recyclable (The bottle, however, that I used for reviewing and for the giveaway is 30 ml; it must be some sample size.) and safe #2 plastic container with a small flip top. You're supposed to store it upside down and then squeeze a small amount on the toothbrush. Since it does does not contain any SLS, it does not foam. Best of all, it doesn't contain fluoride so it is safe to swallow. The overall flavor is similar to, but milder than baking soda which is not surprising because baking soda is the second ingredient. It is white, smooth, and has a subtle taste of strawberry. It reminded me a little bit of Tom's of Maine's Goofy Grape, but was still better tasting and less abrasive. My three year old who can actually brush her teeth versus chewing on it, likes it whereas my toddler who is more of a chewer did make an initial face, but presently, still likes it all the same.

I highly recommend this for two or three year children as a transition toothpaste before they get a fluoride (if you are pro-fluoride) toothpaste because while its taste does deter one from swallowing, it's still safe when they haven't mastered the "don't swallow" component of brushing. It's also a decent all-around family toothpaste for those who are in the anti-fluoride camp.

Other flavors include cool mint, lemon, and cinnamon. The prices are $7.99 for 60 ml or 13.99 for 125 ml Canadian dollars. There's free shipping for purchases $50 and over.

So, let's go on to the giveaway. All you need to do is to look at Lyrae's website full of natural goodies and come back here to write a comment on what catches your eye. Please include your e-mail address if you don't have a blog. This giveaway applies only to U.S. residents and will end on February 20, 2009. Please also note that the bottle size for this giveaway is a small 30 ml bottle, but since you only need to use a little, it still goes a long way.

Good luck and check out all the this Bloggy Giveaways Carnival!

We SUFFER from dry skin so I am most interested in the Calendula & Chamomile Salve. We have used and liked Tom's toothpaste, silly Strawberry, I think...so it would be fun to try another brand.

The Men's Page is nice, since a lot of shops don't focus on natural products for me (The Bastard Be Gone organic tea made me smile).

I'd love to try this toothpaste, since my son had just sprouted some teeth and I have to brush them. I like that there's no added fluoride, since we already have it in the water.

Lyrae's anti-fungal salve, & anti-viral salve, cayenne arthritis salve, plus her eucalyptus chest rub, and healing hand balm, ... you can tell I could not choose. The sweet dreams & lavender all natural talc-free body powder, and her "relaxing" (and the "refreshing") body or facial mist would be so wonderful to try! Her organic cotton handkerchiefs "pocket pack" would help us at our house! And I could not pass up the fishing soap! wow! Would like to try the Strawberry toothpaste, though, too!
