Montessori Monday: Practical Life

Koko had fun pouring beans with a funnel. I always use a metal chopstick to help the funneling process go smoother so I gave her chopstick as well. I don't know how normal people use a funnel. Tell me if you know.
Koko didn't like doing this one on one correspondence with tweezers. Cheeky (above), trying to imitate her sister enjoyed poking the pom poms with tweezers. This is not the intended purpose, but I humored her a bit. Tweezers work the pincer grip a lot so it's usually the last instrument in the Montessori practical life sequence. You usually start with fingers, then tongs, and then tweezers. Where in the world are my tongs? Urgh.
Here's Cheeky doing what I orginially planned for her to do which was to just use her fingers to move a pom pom to each compartment. Sometimes she tried to squeeze two pom poms into each star crevice. Silly girl. By the way, if your child, switches off between his or her right and left hand, that's normal. It takes a while for them to figure out their dominant hand and so just leave them to be. This ice tray, purchased long ago, is from IKEA but I can't find out what number plastic it is. If you can, purchase non-plastic items and if unavoidable, #5 plastic is a less toxic plastic.
And here is Cheeky. This time she's scooping beans from one dish to another.

Next Week: Red and Blue Rods.
And don't forget to check out Shannon's website for her Montessori Monday.

We just used a funnel yesterday to make a stress ball to keep Josh's hands busy! I used an unsharpened pencil to poke the flour through. So, as far as I know, that is how every uses funnels. I still owe you skeleton stuff and knobless cylinder sheets. I have not forgotten but am just SLOW!

THANK YOU so much for the explanations. It totally makes more sense now. I can't wait to get a funnel and work on the beans with Evan. That's what I have been missing from the Montessori posts. Babybear starts his 8 Saturday classes at Montessori starting this Saturday.

Maybe I hit this one up already, but you've got a capitalized "I" at the end of your blog entry's title.
