article on food allergy research

After months of suspecting that the baby had food allergies, the doctor finally confirmed that yes, she does. As far as  I can tell, it seems to only be dairy, but I am being on the safe side and avoiding some other major allergens. The hardest one is soy because this Asian girl loves soy sauce. While surfing the net on food allergies, I came upon this uplifting article. It's amazing what caring doctors and parents can do.

Hello! I don't usually post comments, but food allergy recovery is sort of my thing for the past few years. It is possible to reverse food allergies through dietary intervention. Diets such as the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), the GAPS Diet, the Body Ecology Diet (BED), the Maker's Diet (and more), have been known to reverse a number of conditions, including food allergies. I can speak first-hand because I used to have reactions to food (throat/tongue swelling and more) which is no longer the case after following the GAPS Diet. My husband, who had a fish allergy, just ate fish for the first time last week without ill effect. Granted, none of our previous reactions were anaphylactic, but they were certainly problematic. I highly suggest looking into such diets while children are young because they will heal faster and probably wouldn't have to be on the diet for as long (for the most part, these diets are temporary as they are meant to be healing). My children have been doing wonderfully on it, and we have seen so much healing happen in the past year and a half.

One last thing, you can try Coconut Aminos in place of soy sauce for the time being. The Vitamin Shoppe carries it, if you have one of those near you. It's not exactly the same as soy sauce, but it does have a similar flavor that is nice in its own right. Our diet doesn't include soy, and this Asian girl also loves her soy sauce!

Thanks so much for blogging and sharing such wonderful ideas! I've followed your blog for a good while now, but as I mentioned, I hardly ever post comments. Best to you and your family!

I've met Dr. Nadeau and know of one family receiving the peanut patch. We are doing a fundraiser for her allergy research called SAFAR.

Hi Becky,

Just stumbled upon your blog looking for Montessori materials. I am impressed with all you do! I just started homeschooling this past year with my daughter who is about to turn 6. We joined a Classical Conversations community and did lots of fun things at home. Reading through parts of your blog, I feel like you are me, but a "better version"--LOL! I am Korean, desire to do more Montessori at home, wish I could teach my kids Korean (but I don't really speak and never learned the written language), try to eat organically, LOVE Ann Voskamp and use many of her ideas for spiritual growth with my kids. And like your husband, I went to seminary, so I know what it's like being where you are!

Anyways, would love to connect with you to get more ideas of how you do it all--homeschool and Montessori, cook great recipes, garden, etc!! estherkchoi@gmail.com
