We celebrated our official first day of school this Tuesday with Grace's muffins. Next week is Chusuk (a Korean national harvest holiday) and our family is going to celebrate this holiday for the first time. I will read Sori's Harvest Moon Day *and we are going to kang-kang-suh-lae with some friends outside in front of the harvest moon and praise God from whom all blessings flow.
I am currently obsessed with Korean children's books. I loved the mountains and the ocean, but it was Korea's used bookstores that put me in a near stupor. They were crammed with children's books that were in almost in mint condition and very inexpensive. I am still a little sad that I didn't personally get to look at all the books my cousin recommended me, but I was pleasantly surprised to find this! A collection of many books, some of them much beloved by my children.
Happy Chusuk!
* There is a reference of ancestral rites in the book. Christians celebrate the Harvest Day by thanking God. They will still visit their parents' tombs, tidy it up, and often have a memorial services for their parents, especially if they were Christians.
