Biting my tongue

In a math seminar that a local Montessori school offered for their parents (Some Montessori teachers are supportive of homeschoolers and will let you attend their functions. ) the directress spoke of young preschool children who wanted to do older work. She told us that they always "followed the child" and usually the kid would figure out that the work required too much work and ask to put the work away. So when Cheeky asked to do the 9000 layout, I bit my tongue and started thinking she would tire soon enough. Imagine my surprise when she stuck with it to the end and even was echoing, "One thousand, two thousand..." the whole time and this is from a kid who can barely count. An added bonus: Koko reached for this material the next day.

Wow! How old is she again?

Do you have any pictures of your classroom that show how your math materials are stored?

She will be three in a week.

I'll try to get around taking pictures but I'll warn you: organization is not my strong point!

Please tell me where you got those manipulatives? I've been looking for something like that! That's wonderful that she's counting so high! The sky is the limit!

Min, she's not really counting...she can barely count to ten! I don't know how much she really got out of it, but I was amused that she stuck with it to the end.

I bought them from IFIT and Adena. I am not sure if it's really worth it.

That's still impressive...she has good follow through, never mind concentration to finish a task!
