Our New Balance

My husband was so excited to find this balance at the thrift store. He really detests our balance from I-FIT that barely works. Please do not purchase their balances!

He was very excited that it was made in Italy.

I would have preferred Haba's Play Scale*, but I couldn't argue against $5 versus $40+. Nor could I squash my husband's joy on his thrift find.

He insisted that I post about this. He's that proud of his find. And now that I am pretty much out of commission for this postpartum month, he's the new teacher in town and he is teaching Cheeky about 'heavy' and 'light' using this balance and the ceramic tiles from the hundreds board. I love this man.

* First seen from the Wonder Years. Check out Amy's post on activities using a balance scale.

That is a cool scale. We have an old scale, but it is for display and will not be coming out for school. I still need to get one for school. Good to know about the ifit one.

Here is the post about how I made the decanomial square:

I did hand sew it, which takes a while, but if you're spending a lot of time sitting around nursing a baby anyway... ;)

To measure the pieces, basically cut a strip as wide as the row you are doing (i.e. for the seventh row, cut a strip seven cm wide). Then cut one square from it (or two if you're doubling up your felt like I did), then two (or four for double layers) of each rectangle of smaller size (7x6, 7x5, 7x4...).

If that's confusing, let me know.

Been thinking of you and the baby. Hope things are going well. :)
