The gist of this Montessori birthday activity is basically, the birthday child carries the globe around the sun as many times as he/she is old. So, since Koko is four, she will go around the sun four times and Cheeky will go around once. I love the sun as well as the song Montesssori Story used for her daughter's birthday. I hear some people also crank up a music box that plays the birthday song as they go around the sun.
Husband and I had a fun debate at Target. He wanted to use the huge red ball as the sun while I wanted to use yellow play dough and popsicle sticks for the months. My second choice was this yellow soy candle. But his argument on being proportionally correct won out. Why red versus yellow? They didn't have any yellow balls and supposedly the sun is more red than yellow.
