Mammals

I think I've mentioned many times how much Koko loves animals. Naturally, having a nursing sibling, she often points out animals with teats.

I casually mentioned how breastfeeding is one characteristic of mammals. She looked at me thoughtfully and replied, "Umma, then you must be a mammal, too."

And even though it's been a while since her initial discovery, she stills gets excited and tells me, "Oh, look at that goat! It's a mammal!" And snakes are not mammals because they come from eggs. Fish are not mammals. Frogs are not mammals. But foxes are mammals, and so on.

So, without even really talking about it, by default, she recognizes that mammals come out live, and not from eggs. Hmmm.....
