Birthday Felt Crowns?

Wow, time flies. I just cleared my Christmas decorations and Valentine's Day passed without any of the crafts and yummy goodies I had planned. And now it's almost March? Koko's birthday is March 1 and Cheeky is only three days later. I was hoping Koko was more or less oblivious to the whole concept of birthday parties but upon asking, she definitely had some ideas on her mind. She's so easy to please. Here's her little list:

  • A chocolate cake for her and a strawberry cake for Cheeky. Cupcakes and candy. We compromised and settled on a chocolate cake with strawberries inside. Thanks to Miriam, we like the cakes at Fresh Market on Devon and Ketzie.
  • Party hats
  • Red and white cups and plates
  • The location to be held in her Chicago grandma's house with two families we are pretty close to.
Since we're going to Chicago next weekend, I think everything will work out. But I've been thinking of how much my girls would enjoy having felt crowns like this or this. Here's an actual tutorial if you're interested. And another crown template. And I just found this princess birthday hat from Skip to my Lou which is equally cute, but I'll probably still go with the crowns. I actually still have some organic plant-dyed felt handy. Will I actually be able to complete this? I am a little faint of heart.

And I'm still in shock that Koko is going to be four and Cheeky is going to be two.
