This is the third time it's snowed here, but today, it has not stopped for long and several inches have accumulated
I bundled up the kids and went to the library for laptime. This time, I wasn't daunted by the lack of sidewalks. And the double stroller alleviated conflicts between the two children who want to sit in the stroller. While pushing the stroller through the hilly street, I was thankful for several reasons:
(1) That my husband insisted holding on to the ancient, bulky, hard-to-maneuver Graco double stroller
(2) That there are no sidewalks on my trek to the library because it sure is harder to push a double stroller in sidewalks covered with unplowed snow!
(3) That we live only half a mile from the library
Koko asked me, "Mom, why are you making those werid sounds?
Me: I (pant) am (pant) so (pant) tired.
Truly, the joy of the Lord is my strength.
Today is also my husband's 34th birthday. I almost went on a nervous panic searching for his birthday present hidden away and the location forgotten. Fortunately, I found them--two Swiss turquoise combs. He has unruly hair in the morning and is in a fix when he can't locate a comb.
My husband is a hardworking and sacrificial man who will do anything for me and the children. Most meaningful to me is that he made it a priority to somehow make it work out so that I could be a stay-at-home mom like I always dreamed to be. And even though we don't see eye to eye when it comes down to my non-toxic obsession, he supports me nonetheless. Recently, he drove us to Chicago and came back to carefully remove the smelly carpet in the hallway and the bedroom and then proceeded to undertake a first time project of sanding, staining, and varnishing it himself.
Most mornings, he's gone before I even awake with only a bowl of cereal. I always wanted to make him a hot meal before he heads to work, but while the spirit is willing, the body is weak. The past week I've made cheese bread, scones, and homemade granola for him to eat in the morning and after work for a tasty snack and he's been in heaven. I don't know how long this trend will last, but it feels good to make something nourishing for my honey.
And last of all, to smooth over his trip from work, I shoveled the driveway. Koko and Cheeky finally fell asleep for a nap. When they wake up, we'll make him our traditional birthday and for every other occasion cake--banana cake. I make it sans frosting and nutmeg.
A question for you cooks out there, is nutmeg crucial when it comes to taste?

Ooh, a happy B-day to your hubby! Just stay sane in the snow now, ya hear? Oh, and good luck with the breakfast best.
Not sure about the nutmeg...
I shovelled for Andrew's arrival today too! I am already sick of the snow!
Thanks for the call/offer today! Hope you guys have a great holiday!
That was a great tribute to your husband. I admired that so much that he supports your desire to be a stay-at-home mom. That's wonderful!
Happy birthday to the hubs...nutmeg makes a difference if you use freshly grated nutmeg. It's that "little something" that can really make a recipe. Esp. apple pie.

I don't have my own recipe. This is what I use.
Question- have you ever done a review about healthy plateware for kids? I was putting way BabyBear's Spiderman plate and wondered whether I had to worry about lead paint or some other stuff. I mean, what if there was a recall and I missed it? I am on the listserv for some recalls. I would be curious to know if you've done one and I apologize b/c I haven't been able to get current with all your posts.
